Yarn Suggestions
I recommend using DK weight yarns that have alpaca or mohair in them to add extra strength and warmth to the socks. Also, a more tightly spun yarn will help make these socks last.

The women’s sizes will use 240-260 m (262-284 yd) of yarn. The men's sizes will use 275-300 m (300-330 yd).

The following yarns have been tested with good results.

sweaterkits.com - Merino Alpaca Yarn
50% superfine alpaca, 50% merino wool
50 g (1¾ oz), 110 m (120 yd) - 3 balls.

Naturally - Luxury DK
50% New Zealand wool, 50% New Zealand mohair
50 g (1¾ oz), 104 m (114 yd) - 3 balls

GGH - Wollywasch Tweed
96% New Wool (superwash), 4% Rayon
50 g (1¾ oz), 125 m (137 yds) - 3 balls

GGH - Classico
70% Superwash Wool, 30% Acrylic
50 g (1¾ oz), 135 m (148 yds) - 3 balls

These yarns should also work nicely.

Joslyn's Fiber Farm - Mohair Myst
50% kid mohair, 50% merino wool
113 g (4 oz), 220 m (240 yd) - 2 skeins
Note: There will be plenty left over for other projects.

Dale of Norway - Sisik
30% Mohair, 30% Wool, 34% Acrylic, 6% Viscose
50 g (1¾ oz), 136 m (148 yd) - 3 balls
