Socks and beyond
Sock yarns are not just for socks these days! We’ll look at the many uses for sock yarns and discuss the best ways to use the various types of yarns available.
I’ll be speaking to the Oakville Association of Knitters and Crocheters (OAK-C) next Tuesday, November 5th.
The meeting is at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.
I’ll be talking about lots of ways you can use up your sock yarn stash, and not just for socks! I’ll have lots of pretty yarns and samples for people to look at, as well as books they can be inspired by.
I’ll also be spinning at a couple events the next two weekends.
The Guelph Guild of Handweavers & Spinners is holding their Fall Fibres: Annual Textile Arts Show & Sale this weekend, Saturday November 2nd, 2013.
It is being held at the Wellington County Museum, from 10am – 4pm.
I don’t have any items for sale this year, but my partner Van has several pieces in it. We will be demoing spinning and weaving starting at 3pm.
The following weekend my spinning guild will be taking part in the Sheep to Shawl competition at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto on Sunday November 10th, 2013 from 9am – 1pm.
My guild will have two teams at the competition this year.

We will be bringing pre-warped looms. The warp is made from handspun yarn that the team made for the competition.
We have four hours in which to spin and weave the shawl. The finished shawl has to be no less than 1200 square inches, and not be less than 60 inches long.
The shawls are judged on several criteria and prizes are given out at the end.
Last year our two teams placed 3rd and 5th. We are hoping to improve on that this year!
I’m part of the second team. This is the one for members who are newer to the competition and who are still coming up to speed. The first team is the really competetive one!
After the competition is done most of us will be staying around for the Fleece Auction. This should be starting between 2 and 3pm. It’s always a lot of fun! All the fleeces that were judged at the fair will be available for sale. There have been some pretty stunning fleeces in the past years and this year should be the same!
